Polypropylene label materials

Why choose polypropylene labels?

Polypropylene labels are a smart choice if you need labels for temporary identification. This label material is also a good alternative when paper labels are not up to the job and polyester labels are not required. Paper labels generally have low resistance to UV, oils, chemicals, humidity, high temperatures and are prone to tears, scratches and other damage. Polypropylene labels, on the other hand, are flexible, more resistant to external factors and can withstand a scratch or two. This type of label material adheres well to e.g. glass, plastic, smooth surfaces, warehouse shelving, metal, steel, cardboard and paper.

Characteristics of polypropylene labels

The polypropylene label material has an operating temperature of -20ºC up to +80ºC as well as an average resistence to UV, chemicals, and changing weather conditions. We can supply polyproylene labels with different types of adhesives, such as permanent, non-permanent (removable), freezer and Block Out.

Polypropylene labels can also be used outdoors. The average outdoor lifespan is 2-5 years - depending on the application - compared to 6 months for paper labels. Polypropylene has more flexibility than paper, making it a perfect choice for labelling round surfaces. In addition, the label material is recyclable and approved for applications within the food industry.

We recommend using resin or wax-resin printer ribbons when printing your own polypropylene labels. These particular ribbons will make the print easy to read for both a barcode scanner and the human eye.

Alternative to polypropylene labels

Polyester labels are a good alternative to polypropylene labels if you are looking for a more robust label material with stronger adhesive strength. Polyester labels have a longer outdoor lifespan compared to polypropylene labels and higher resistance to UV, heat, humidity, oils, chemicals and scratches. This type of material is available with a metallised topcoat (silver) for a fancier finish to your labels. Like the polypropylene labels, you can easily print your own polyester labels with a thermal transfer printer and matching printer ribbon. It is worth noting however that polyester labels are higher priced than polypropylene labels.
