Polyester label materials

    Why choose polyester labels?

Polyester labels are a popular choice amongst our customers who use a thermal transfer printer to print their own labels. Polyester is a type of material that can be used at high temperatures and be applied to many different types of surfaces, e.g. stainless steel, glass, plastic, automotive paint, PBT (polybutylene terephthalate), polycarbonate, cardboard, wood, paper galvanised and chromed metal, powder coated and painted steel. The material’s strong adhesive strength ensures good adhesion to textured surfaces as well as smooth and slightly roughened surfaces.

    Characteristics of polyester labels

At ONE2ID, you can purchase polyester labels with a very high heat resistance, with operating temperatures ranging from +90ºC to +150ºC, and even as high as +250ºC (short-term). In addition, you can order polyester materials that can withstand extremely low temperatures (down to -196ºC) that are often used in laboratories. This type of polyester label also has very good chemical resistance and is waterproof.

Polyester is also an excellent choice when you need tamper-evident labels. Our checkerboard labels leave a clearly visible mark (i.e. a checkerboard pattern) on the surface upon removal. This type of label cannot be reused, so the attempt at removing the always remains visible. The same applies to our Destructible vinyl labels, which disintegrate upon removal. You can order both label materials from us and then print your own labels with e.g. a barcode or logo. We recommend using resin or wax-resin printer ribbons when printing polyester labels. This ensures better long-term readability and scannability of the print.

If you are looking for a cost-effective alternative to expensive Resopal type plates or name plates, we can recommend our raised labels. These particular labels have a more luxurious appearance than regular polyester labels. The robust design and structure of the label ensures long-term benefits from your investment.

    Alternative to polyester labels

Depending on your application, you can also opt for polypropylene labels instead of polyester labels. These type of labels have slightly less adhesive strength and can be used in temperatures up a maximum of +80ºC. Polypropylene labels, like polyester labels, are versatile and can be used on various surfaces. You can use this material to print barcodes, texts, logos and pictograms on your labels.

If you are not sure whether you need polyester or polypropylene labels, take a look at the diagram below. The diagram shows some key points to help you decide which of the two materials is suitable for your application (click on the image to enlarge).
